Renewal will allow Genesee Health Plan to continue providing health care coverage for thousands of Genesee County residents
FLINT – The Genesee Health Plan (GHP) will continue to provide basic health care coverage to Genesee County residents for an additional seven years, the Friends of Genesee Health Plan announced today. The Genesee County Health Care Services Millage, which provides funding for the Genesee Health Plan (GHP), was renewed by Genesee County voters with 65 percent voter support according to Genesee County’s unofficial election results.
“We are overwhelmed by the positive support for the renewal of the Health Care Services Millage,” said Jim Milanowski, GHP President and CEO. “The Genesee Health Plan is our community’s health plan and we want to thank Genesee County voters for making sure we can continue to provide health care coverage for thousands of Genesee County residents and dental care coverage for seniors and veterans.”
Founded in 2001, GHP covers preventive health care services including doctor visits, outpatient mental health services, prescription drugs, mammograms, cancer screenings, labs and X-rays. GHP also provides dental care coverage for seniors and veterans, as many do not have dental coverage. Every penny raised from the millage is spent on direct health care services for patients.
Tax rates will stay the same as they are today and will cost the average homeowner about $50 per year. Genesee County voters first approved the millage in 2006 and renewed it in 2012. No money goes to administrative costs, and there is strict independent oversight to ensure taxpayer dollars are being spent wisely and with transparency.
“We are grateful for the continued support of Genesee County residents in making sure the Genesee Health Plan can provide health care services for those who need it most,” said Kay Doerr, GHP Board Chairman. “Our community is truly fortunate to have the Genesee Health Plan. The renewal of the Health Care Services Millage will make sure our neighbors, family members and friends can continue to receive preventive health care services in the years to come.”
